Your First Copy, Step by Step

The full path from signing up to a live copy on Polycopy: fund Polymarket, connect your wallet, pick a trader, read their Copy Score, set a budget, activate, and what the first week looks like.

Last updated August 22, 2026

This is the whole path from nothing to a live copy. Budget about twenty minutes, most of which is funding your Polymarket account. Every step except the last one is free.

1

Create your Polycopy account

Sign up with email or Google. It is free and takes a minute, and nothing about this step touches money.

2

Create and fund a Polymarket account

Polycopy places orders into your Polymarket account, so you need one and it needs money in it. Sign up on Polymarket, deposit, and make sure you have converted your USDC balance to pUSD. Polymarket prompts you for that conversion in the app. Nothing can trade until the balance is in pUSD.

3

Connect your wallet to Polycopy

In Settings, connect your Polymarket wallet. This is what lets Polycopy sign orders in your account. It does not let Polycopy withdraw your funds, which stay on Polymarket the whole time.

4

Find a trader on Discover

Open Discover and work through the board. Do not stop at the largest P&L. A big number usually means a big account rather than an edge you can copy.

5

Read their Copy Score

Copy Score answers one question: after the worse fills and the fees a copier actually pays, was following this trader worth it? It is about the trader across their finished record, not about any single trade. A dash means there is no verdict yet, which is not the same as a middling one. Open the profile and check the record behind the score too: how many trades, over how long, and in which categories.

6

Decide whether to start on paper

Paper Trading is free and places no real orders. It runs your exact setup against real trades with simulated costs, so you can see how a bot behaves before it spends anything. If you are unsure, run one and check back in a week.

7

Set your budget

Give the bot a budget it is allowed to use. That is the most you are putting at risk with this trader. A bot needs at least $50 to start, and each order it places has a $5 minimum. Start with an amount that would not bother you if it were gone.

8

Choose a trading behaviour

Pick how selective the bot should be. The options are Selective, Balanced, Broad, ranging from only backing records that clear what copying them costs, through to almost anyone. Balanced is preselected.

9

Set your size and slippage

Size per copy decides how much goes into each trade. Slippage tolerance decides the worst price you will accept relative to the trader's, and the default is 7%. Custom slippage is a Premium control. Wider is not better: it authorises worse fills rather than finding better ones.

10

Review the summary

Before you activate, the review screen shows the budget, the size per copy, the rules, and the fee. Every individual order also shows "Est Total (Incl. Fee)" before it confirms, so the full cost is always in front of you.

11

Activate

Turn the bot on. It starts watching from that moment and does not go back for trades the trader made before you activated.

What to expect in the first week

Five things that are normal and are not faults

Quiet is normal

A bot only trades when your trader trades and the trade passes your rules. Several quiet days are ordinary. Most traders are not making qualifying trades every hour.

Some copies get skipped

If the price moved beyond your slippage tolerance before your order landed, the copy is skipped rather than filled at a bad price. That is the protection working.

Your price will often differ from theirs

You arrive seconds after them, into a book their own trade has already moved. A cent or two of difference is ordinary.

Early P&L means very little

Ten copies is noise. Judge a setup on dozens of finished positions, not on the first few days.

Positions resolve on their own

When a market resolves, proceeds land in your Polymarket balance automatically and the capital frees up inside the bot.
